Mimi Heller
A voice studio and children's choir
Cantabile is a voice studio in Rutland with four teachers and three choirs. Children who sing, teens in school musicals and adults who sing in the car all start the same way, with a placement visit where we listen first.

Times change a little each term. The Saturday singing class is limited to 8 children.
The choirs
Nobody auditions. A placement visit is how we find the right choir.

Ages 7 to 11. Songs learned by ear, a little rhythm and a lot of singing together.

Ages 12 to 17. Harmony in two and three parts, and songs from school musicals.

Adults of any experience. Easy songs first, and then whatever the room wants to sing.
Our teachers
Cailin conducts the choirs, and Mimi plays the piano at every rehearsal.

Caring for your voice
Every lesson and every rehearsal begins with easy breathing and gentle sounds, before anyone sings a song.
Bring a water bottle to lessons and rehearsals. We stop for a drink in the middle of every rehearsal.
A tired voice can sit out a song, or a whole rehearsal, and nobody minds. There is always something else to do with the time.
The year
Singing in a concert is the student's choice. Families and friends are always welcome to listen.
Late August · Meet the teachers, see the studio and sing along at the piano.
Early September · Lessons and all three choirs start their weekly rehearsals.
December · The three choirs and the voice students sing in the hall. Families and friends are welcome.
Early January · Lessons and choirs start again.
March · An evening in the studio for anyone who wants to sing one song for friends.
May · The year's last concert, with every choir and a song from each voice student who would like one.

“My daughter hums all the way home from Tuesday choir. The teachers learned her name on the first night, and she asked for another night the next week.”
“I have sung in the car for thirty years and never in front of anyone. The community choir sits in a circle, and nobody looks at you for too long.”
“Our son found his own songs for the school musical here. Jordy asks what he wants to sing before he suggests anything.”
